Instant noodles are a saving grace for our busy lives. It's quick, warm, and yummy. But have you ever thought about giving it another 5-10 minutes of your time? I have developed this quick recipe for when I want the most out of my instant noodles. It's fresh, easy, and a little more tasty. Let's go!
OH WOW - my tummy
As an Asian girl, instant noodles have been part of my life since the beginning. Literally. I learned how to cook Indomie from a very young age and have not stopped eating it since. My mum used to ALWAYS make do with what we had in the cupboard and if there was no rice, there were instant noodles. She would always elevate it as best she can and this is how I came to develop my own little rendition. As always my recopies are a guide. To truly find your own style in cooking, experiment and add your own little bits! I hope you enjoy making this.
Elevated Instant Noodles - Fish Balls and Choi Sum
Ingredients
Serves: 1 Hungry Individual
1 Packet of Instant Noodles (I use Indomie soup almost always)
Couple sprigs of Choi Sum (Any other leafy greens will be fine!)
1 Egg
Fish Balls (Optional and can substitute for other proteins)
1 Shallot
2 Cloves Garlic
2 Birds eye chilies (optional but highly recommended)
Seasonings and Sauce:
Splash of Soy Sauce
Hot Water
Sprinkle MSG
Sprinkle Chicken Powder
Togarashi to garnish (optional)
Directions
Prep your ingredients by slicing up the shallots, garlic, and chilies. Chop up your vegetables. Defrost the fish balls with boiling water if necessary.
In a hot deep oiled pan, add your shallots, garlic, and chilies. Add MSG, soy sauce, and chicken powder, and then your chopped veg. After the veg has fried for 30-40 seconds, add hot water - enough to cover the instant noodles and extra if you like it extra soupy.
Add in your instant noodles and the seasoning that came with the packet. Add in your fish balls and crack the egg in the middle of the pan. Cover the pan especially where the egg is to let it cook to your desired texture. After around 3-4 mins, serve in a bowl and garnish with a sprinkle of togarashi (optional). Finally, enjoy!
Notes: If you prefer a more soupy dish, simply add more water but also add more seasoning to ensure a proportionate flavor!
Also, this dish is so versatile that ingredients such as seasonings are changeable perhaps experiment with onion or garlic powder. Experiment and have fun :)
